Kevin Houchin
Business and life are ultimately about connecting with people. In spite of all the jokes, lawyers are people too - at least this one (still) is.

You've visited the site and you have clicked on the "profile" link, so you've shown at least some interest in learning a little bit more about the leadership and team behind Houchin & Associates.
Life is a dynamic balance between family, work, physical health, community, and spiritual well being.

Professionally:
I help you:

1. Define creative, business, and personal goals.
2. Plan to reach those goals.
3. Work that plan.
4. Prevent problems along the way.
5. Solve problems that happen to come up in life and business.

The different professional hats I wear:

Lawyer
My law degree is from the University of Iowa College of Law.
I'm 2/2 on bar exams - Iowa and Colorado.
As an attorney I can help with all the things one needs legal representation to accomplish.
As a counselor I try to help you avoid needing an attorney.

Teacher
Education is critical. I do as much speaking and writing as possible on topics relating to the business of being creative.

Marketer
Helping people define and communicate their core ideals and identity is a passion and a profession I've worked in for almost 20 years, in practically every industry from healthcare to high-tech, software to recreational products. It's not unusual for me to act as both a lawyer and a marketing consultant for my clients.

Designer
I have a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in Graphic Design from Iowa State University.
When designing, I specialize in business identity systems - I'm far better at designing a complex system, than working on a one-time poster or advertisement.

Artist
To keep my creative brain active I keep a sketchbook full of drawings, designs, and ideas. These images eventually take final form in an individual drawing, a scratchboard image, or usually (my favorite) batik. (Unfortunately, getting time to do batik is difficult...).

My family is incredibly important to me. After all, what's the point of working if you can't enjoy the benefits and love of your family? Why have kids if you never get to spend any time with them? My wife and I have 3 wonderful children, our son Rune (5), our daughter Tobin (3) and our son Merrick (1). I spend as much time with them as I can - which is why I've set my office hours from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm (or by appointment). Leaving the office around 3pm lets me be as productive as I need to be during the day, but still get a few hours of quality time in with the family before the kids get put to bed.

That time in the late afternoon is also used for getting some exercise - usually racquetball or squash, but sometimes running with my wife or swimming with the kids.

My community involvement happens through several arts organizations, but also gets blended into my spiritual well being through my involvement in church and my involvement in several Masonic bodies.
